The IPL has always been known for a tournament where Indian youngsters break out. Many stars from the current Indian team, like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and many more, made their names in the IPL.
Eleven matches into the 2024 IPL, it looks like the IPL has found its newest rising star, Mayank Yadav. Yadav, who plays for Delhi in domestic cricket, is a right arm fast bowler and he bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament on 30th March. Bowling in the 11th over to Shikhar Dhawan, Yadav bowled at the speed of 155.8 kmph.
The debutant had a great time on his debut, bowling a spell that turned the tide to his team’s favor. With PBKS cruising 102/0 during the 11th over, Yadav took the wicket of Jonny Bairstow. In his next over he got the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh, with a ball that clocked 147 kmph.
He picked up his last wicket in a similar fashion, making Jitesh Sharma pull the ball but instead giving a catch to midwicket fielder. He finished the innings with figures of 3/27. The pacer won the Player of the Match award for his incredible spell.
The pacer was originally picked up by Lucknow SuperGiants in 2023, but missed out due to an injury. After returning, the pacer was fast-tracked into the North Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy. So far, the pacer has played 1 First Class match, 17 List As and 11 T20s.
Punjab Kings chokes yet again as they lose their 3rd match of the season
Chasing 200, the Punjab Kings started their innings well. Opening duo Dhawan and Bairstow smashed the hosts for 61 runs. The PBKS captain hit a fifty in 30 balls as well. It all changed when debutant Mayank Yadav began to bowl. The debutant enforced a batting collapse, picking the wickets of three out of the top 4 batters.
Even Dhawan started to struggle, as he managed only 20 runs in the next 20 balls, unable to play Yadav’s pace. Mohsin Khan then picked up two wickets in the 17th over, denting PBKS’s chance to win.
From being 98/0 in the 10th over, they finished the innings losing five wickets and putting up 78 runs. This loss is PBKS’s 2nd loss in a row, earlier losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
