Kyle Mayers and Shaheen Shah Afridi

In the first ODI match of the ICC Cricker World Cup Super League series between Pakistan and West Indies in Multan, the former were asked to bowl first. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi first took the wicket of Kyle Mayers on the penultimate delivery of the third over.

Mayers didn’t stay at the crease for a long time (scored just three runs) after a brilliant caught and bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi. When the umpire checked for a no-ball, the replay was showed of a previous delivery where Mayers was at the non-striker’s end.

A Twitter user shared the picture of the replay where he claimed that the umpire reviewed the wrong delivery.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (No. 1 batsman in ODI and T20) became the first cricketer to slam three consecutive centuries in ODI matches twice. He played a century knock of 103 runs off 107 balls with nine boundaries and helped Pakistan beat West Indies by five wickets.

The win gives Pakistan 1-0 lead in the three match series and also 10 poins in the ODI Super League (which is a qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup). After Azam and Mohammad departed in quick succession and Pakistan needed 50 runs off 32 balls, a 23-ball 41 runs from Khushdil Shah helped Pakistan reach the score in 49.2 overs. He slammed three successive sixes off Romario Shepher’s 47th over. And Mohammad Nawaz hit the winning six in the final over.

Azam had won the Man of the Match trophy but he handed the award to Khushdil and said:

“I want to give the award to him for his outstanding knock,” said Azam. “We planned the chase and showed intent which worked in our favour.”
