Pakistan were all set to play their first T20I match under Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy on 12th January. They were facing Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in Eden Park, where the visiting side has had more success. Losing the toss, New Zealand were sent out to bat first but have been top of the game ever since.

Losing their first wicket in the first over after Afridi got Devon Conway, Williamson and Finn Allen managed to put up only 5 more runs to the total before Allen let go. He proceeded to smack the Pakistani captain for 24 runs in his 2nd over, with three boundaries and two sixes.

The very next over, Allen hit Pakistan breakout star, Aamer Jamal, for a six before getting bowled. Celebrating his wicket, the entire Pakistan team surrounded him as he ran all around the ground. As they celebrated, the umpire called for no-ball. Allen, who was walking back to the pavilion was called back and Jamal couldn’t believe his luck. Later the replays showed that he had overstepped, with his foot quite far from the crease.

In the same over the pacer appealed for a LBW as he believed he had trapped Allen in front of the stumps. With the umpire not giving the wicket, a review was taken which showed it was just clipping the stumps. Allen survived on the umpire’s call.

In the very next over Williamson survived as he gave an easy catch to Babar Azam, which he dropped. Williamson once again survived a chance of getting out as he gave a catch to Iftikhar Ahmad at short third man. He went one to score a valiant half-century.

Fans not surprised, exclaim Pakistan are back

Fans on the internet weren’t surprised as things went wrong for the visitors. Many found it funny how they managed to drop two important catches, as Kane Williamson went on to score a half-century as well. Some called him unlucky, while others just laughed.

Losing Devon Conway in the first over, captain Kane Williamson and Finn Allen took on themselves to give a good start to the innings. Allen hit 24 runs off Shaheen Afridi’s 2nd over before being dismissed for 34 in 15. Being dropped twice, Williamson scored 57 off 42 while Darryl Mitchell scored an explosive 61 off 27.

Some good hitting in the death by Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, and Adam Milne boosted the Kiwis to the score of 226/8. Aamer Jamal, who was Pakistan’s best bowler against Australia, went for 56 runs while the captain went for 46.
