135 vs England in 2015 (World Cup)

It was home World Cup at the MCG packed with adoring fans where the Aussies locked-horns with arch-rivals England in the opening game. Being dropped on zero, Aaron Finch became unstopabble along with his 12 fours and three sixes, helping Australia put a giant total of 342/9. Mitch Marsh’s 5/33 then helped Australia a record 111-run victory over England.

“To get a hundred in front of my family and friends at (my) home ground was pretty special and something that will stay with me for a long time. It’s up there (with the best I’ve played) after that initial chance,” Finch said at that time.

93 vs India in 2019

Finch’s form wasn’t in good form as in six ODIs against India and South Africa, he could score only 83 runs at an average of 13.83. He was then made Aussie skipper and against India in a five-match ODI series, his team were already 0-2 down. In the Ranchi match, although it wasn’t his best knocks, but that 93 turned the table completely in Australia’s favour and the Men in Yellow went on to win the series.

121 vs England in 2014

Finch became the first and only Victorian, so far, to score a ton at his home ground MCG. Only Ricky Ponting has more ODI ton (seven) at this ground than Finch’s three. This innings, he said after that match, had given him confidence to get a place at top-order with a World Cup closing in.

“I didn’t know that untoil after the game,” Finch said after becoming the first Victorian to score a ton at the MCG. “It’s very nice feeling. It’s a phenomenal place to play cricket, the atmosphere, the ground, everything is ideal for cricket. It’s a place I’ve loved playing over the years for Victoria and when you get accolades like that it’s nice.”

81 vs India in 2015 (World Cup semi-final)

After a string of low scores, Finch faced India in the high-profile World Cup match semi-final. After the loss of David Warner, an 182-run partnership between Finch and Steve Smith ensured Australia reach a huge target of 328/7, which MS Dhoni’s unbeaten Men in Blue failed to overhaul.

100 vs England in 2019 (World Cup)

It was the match the Australians had to win or otherwise their hopes to remain in the tourament would be hanging by a thread. Finch’s 123-run partnership with Warner for the first wicket posted a total of 285/7. It was also Finch’s second century in that tounament and third in World Cups. Although they had won that match but in both team’s next clash against each other in the semi-final, Finch was dismissed on golden duck and his side could score 223 which wasn’t too much and English side easily chased down the target with 17 overs to spare.
