Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers is set to join the commentary team of SuperSport at South Africa’s new league, the SA20. The 38-year-old is excited to join his former teammates and cricketing legends.
“I am a cricket fan at heart and I can’t wait to be behind the mic to watch the brilliant performances from the SA20,” de Villers said, as quoted by SA Cricket. Mr. 360 will reunite with former Proteas stars including Mark Boucher, Chris Morris, Shaun Pollock, Herschelle Gibbs, Vernon Philander, and Ashwell Prince.
The star-studded commentary team also has Kevin Pietersen, and Zainab Abbas, Darren Sammy. “I am looking forward to joining some of the past teammates and cricketing legends for this exciting opportunity,” de Villiers added.

AB de Villiers says IPL has changed their lives
De Villiers had been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from its inaugural tournament in 2008 until 2021. “The start of the IPL changed our lives. The people are really passionate about cricket. Not only with the home team, but they support members in other teams as well,” de Villers had said earlier as quoted by SA Cricket.
De Villiers retired from international cricket on May 2018. After appearing for IPL teams like Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) and Royal Challengers Bangalore, he bid adieu to all forms of cricket in November 2021.
The inaugural tournament will begin on Tuesday (January 10), with the first match between MI Cape Town and the Paarl Royals at Newlands. A total of six teams will participate in the maiden season. They are Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Mumbai Indians Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and SunRisers Eastern Cape.
