In 2023, Virat Kohli was regularly rested in ODIs for India. In the West Indies tour, he played only one match and rested for two matches. In the 2023 Asia Cup, he didn’t play against Bangladesh and now in the upcoming ODI series with Australia he will not feature in the first two ODIs.
Many fans started theorizing why Virat has been rested so much, with the most logical answer being the team management wanted him to be match fit. But some people started sharing fake news regarding why he is rested and many went viral.
One of the fake quotes that went viral was Adam Gilchrist saying that Virat was dropped to protect Sachin Tendulkar’s records. Adam Gilchrist was made aware of this fake quote and he immediately denied ever saying this. He reposted the post and replied, “Never said this.”
Important players rested for Australia tour
Australia will play India in a three-match ODI series before the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which starts on 22nd September. The Indian selectors have decided to rest captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav. Axar Patel has been benched due to an injury, but could miss the World Cup if he doesn’t recover in time.

In their place Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, and spinners Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin have been added to the squad. KL Rahul will captain the Indian side in the first two ODIs. All rested players will return for the 3rd ODI.
Axar Patel will also feature in the 3rd ODI, as long as he is fit. If he doesn’t recover by the 28th of September, he could be dropped from the World Cup squad. Depending on the performances of Ashwin and Sundar, either one of the off-spinners could replace Axar Patel.
