Pakistan recently lost their 17th Test in Australia consecutively, failing to win even once since 1995. While they did give a good fight during the recent series, they failed to win a single game. Losing yet again, a quote attributed to Aussie legend Adam Gilchrist started going viral.

According to many sources, Gilchrist had said “Pakistan is the worst Asian team” he has ever seen stepping in Australia. They further claimed that Gilchrist commented on how Pakistan haven’t won anything in the country down under in the past 35 years.

After the quote started going viral on social media, a Pakistan fan group on Facebook replied to Gilchrist, reminding him how they won the World Cup on Australian soil in 1992. They further joked how they had “won” Shaniera Akram, an Australian who married Wasim Akram.

Seeing this, Adam Gilchrist had to call out the fake news on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He called the news fake and added the quote was fake. He further praised the Pakistan team for giving a good fight to the world champions.

I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Aust team and very nearly pinched a Test or two.

Pakistan did give a good fight in the second and third Test match of the Benaud-Qadir series, but due to poor performances during crucial stages of the match, they lost. Individual performances from Aamer Jamal were their highlight, with the all-rounder taking two six-wicket hauls.

Pakistan lose first T20I against New Zealand

The start of Shaheen Afridi’s tenure as T20I captain started off with a loss, as Pakistan lost to New Zealand by 46 runs. Winning the toss, Afridi elected to bowl first but that turned out to be the wrong decision. Finn Allen, Kane Williamson and Darryl Mitchell gave a great start as they batted with ease. Allen was bowled by Jamal but returned as it was a no-ball. Along with that they had many drops and misfields, which helped the Kiwis to the score of 226.

Saim Ayub gave an explosive start, scoring 27 off 8, before being run out. Babar Azam scored a half-century but it wasn’t enough as in typical Pakistan fashion, there was a batting collapse. They lost their last 7 wickets in the span of 5.2 overs. They will now play the 2nd T20I on 14th January
