After how many days did Virat Kohli score an ODI century?

Virat Kohli ended the century draught in ODI by slamming a sensational century after 1,214 days and reached a milestone by surpassing Ricky Ponting’s 71 tons. The talismanic batter could have already crossed Ponting had he not suffered a lean patch. Nevertheless, his 44th century finally came after 40 months in the 50-over format against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday (December 10).

Kohli’s century came after  Ishan Kishan, who was insane with his blade, notching the fastest double ton off just 126 deliveries before walking back scoring 210 off 131 balls. Going back to Kohli, he played 85 balls to score his hundred before Shakib Al Hasan dismissed him in the 42nd over after which Kohli departed, aggregating a 91-ball 113-run knock (with 11 fours and two sixes) at a strike rate of 124.18.

Following his knock, he broke quite a few records. First, he became the top Indian run-scorer against Bangladesh as he accumulated 807 runs in 15 ODI innings.

Virat Kohli also surpassed the legendary  Shakib Al Hasan (1,316 runs) by amassing 1,392 runs against Bangladesh in 25 innings across all formats.

The Delhi-based cricketer played just 256 innings to reach his 44th ODI, again surpassing Tendulkar who had played 418 innings to reach the mark in the all-time list of players. His 290-run stand with Kishan also shattered Sourav Ganguly and Tendulkar’s 252-run partnership against Sri Lanka back in 1998.

Meanwhile, India posted 409/8 in their allotted 50 overs with the help of Kohli and Kishan’s knocks. Later, Indian bowlers did the rest of the job by bowling out the Bangladesh team at 182 in just the 35th over with Shardul Thakur scalping three wickets.

India won the match by a huge margin of 227 runs. But Bangladesh, for the second time, won the ODI series against India by 2-1. The first was back in 2015.
