Rinku Singh could not make it into India's T20I squad for the West Indies series. Nevertheless, he is set to travel to Ireland.

Uttar Pradesh batter who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, Rinku Singh was ignored by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as it announced India’s squad for the T20I series against the West Indies. Singh could not make the cut despite setting the stage ablaze in IPL 2023. Meanwhile, the likes of Yashaswi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma were included in the squad.
Rinku’s exclusion made the fans angry. But it seems they will soon get to see Rinku Singh in Indian colors. As Team India is all set to travel to Ireland for a three-match T20I series in August, the BCCI Selection Committee might include Singh in the squad and the southpaw might even get his debut cap.
As per a report in the Indian Express, Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad are set to get a call-up for the Ireland series as BCCI is planning to send a second-string squad. The BCCI source quoted in the report also claimed that the selectors did not want to rush Rinku onto the big stage and it will be done in a phased manner.
“Rinku and other players who did well in the IPL will fly to Ireland as the selection committee doesn’t want to try everyone at one stage. There are seven players of the Indian ODI team who are not going to play T20 as those players are key for us going ahead as they will be playing Asia Cup in late August,” the BCCI source said.
Ajit Agarkar sets his priorities straight, demands more India A tours to test IPL performers
The newly-elected BCCI Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar attended his first meeting and straight away cleared his vision. Agarkar has sought more India A tours from BCCI so that the players who are performing in the IPL can be tested before including them in the senior squad. The BCCI, meanwhile, has started moving papers and talking to other cricket boards to organize tours.
Notably, India A tours have become a rarity ever since the onset of the pandemic. Although the BCCI is arranging a few series here and there, the consistency is still not there. Now, with Agarkar on board and wanting more India A tours, the selection blunders might stop finally.
