The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup on Tuesday (September 6), which is slated to take place in India this October and November. Rohit Sharma and Co. will play their first match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal won’t be a part of the squad and now reports emerged that he will join Kent to play County cricket in England.
As per a report published by the Times of India, the BCCI has granted permission for Chahal to play in England. But if there are any requirements, he will be asked to join the national team.
“The Kent County Cricket Club will make an official announcement regarding this development soon. Chahal will play three four-day games for them. The BCCI has granted NOC to him to play County Cricket. Should he be a requirement for the India team, Chahal will join the national squad immediately,” a BCCI source told TOI.
Apart from Chahal, other star players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Sanju Samson, and Bhuveneshwar Kumar also would not get the chance to feature in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s ODI stats in 2023
Yuzvendra Chahal could not find a place in the 17-member squad for the 2023 Asia Cup. India secured three points in the Asia Cup after the washed-out match against Pakistan and a 10-wicket win over Nepal.
Meanwhile, this year, Chahal has played just two ODI matches and scalped three wickets. Overall, Chahal has bagged 121 wickets in the 50-over format from 72 matches.
Speaking to TOI, Chahal said that he was grateful to the CEO of Zestige Private Healthcare, Brindon Bagirathan. He revealed that India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke highly of Bagirathan who helped the 33-year-old secure a County opportunity on such short notice.
