Former India captain Kapil Dev showed a range of emotions in his recent interview. The 1983 Word Cup-winning captain touched upon various topics from India’s World Cup triumph under him in 1983 to the team’s chances at the 2023 ODI World Cup. Dev also talked about how money has made modern-day cricketers arrogant.
The former India skipper also talked about how he would have made the lives of cricketers easy if he was in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Dev said that BCCI, being the richest cricket body in the world, should look to own charter flights to move its players from one venue to the other, at least within the country.
Slamming the BCCI, who is hosting the ODI World Cup over reckless scheduling, Kapil Dev said that the board should arrange chartered flights so that its players have ample rest between the games. “If I show you the fixture I have seen today, India is playing 11 matches and the amount of traveling they have to do… who made that fixture?” asked Kapil Dev (via The Week).
“Now, how can I look after my team when they are playing in India? You are going to Dharamshala, then to Bengaluru, to Kolkata… playing in nine different places. Somebody asked me, and I said, ‘If I were the board president, I would have a chartered flight for my team.’”

The former captain was also asked about India not winning an ICC tournament in the last ten years to which Dev denied pulling the team down. Kapil Dev focused on the brighter side and pointed out how India have made it to the knockouts in almost every tournament they have played. He also backed India to cross the final hurdle this year.
“Doesn’t matter. We are still playing well. It’s not like winning trophies is everything, but we are reaching the final, the semifinals, we are there, but you have to cross the final hurdle to win,” said Dev.
Notably, the 2023 ODI World Cup is all set to be staged in October-November this year. India will open their campaign against Australia on 8 October in Chennai.
