The 2023 Ashes has given several memorable moments, one of which was the mind game of English spearhead Stuart Broad. He had rearranged the bails on Day 2 of the fifth Ashes series at The Oval in London. And on the next ball, Marnus Labuschagne gave away his wicket to Mark Wood with a spectacular catch by Joe Root.

On Day 4, when everything seemed to be against the English side, skipper Ben Stokes tried to copy Broad’s tactics but failed to get a wicket. Aussie openers were simply unbeatable.

England were bowled out after a decent score of 395. They had two days to try their luck to tie the five-match Test series 2-2. But the rain has played spoilsport for them in both the fourth and fifth Ashes Tests.

In the fourth Tests, England would have tied the series to force the match to a decider but the game halted the proceedings on the fifth day. And now, on Day 4 of the fifth Test, The Oval witnessed heavy rainfall due to which the match couldn’t continue after tea. Australia have so far scored 135/0, and David Warner (58* off 99) and Usman Khawaja (69* off 130) will start their innings on the final day. A draw in this match also means a series victory for Australia as they are already leading it by 2-1.

When will Ben Stokes play next for England?

Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODIs last year in July, and he has already declared he won’t be making a U-turn to come back and play the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Stokes, a big match player, was the driving force behind England’s win in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Though he bid farewell to the 50-over format, he still is a part of the T20I squad. He can be seen next when England will play a four-match T20I series against New Zealand in August-September.
