“Actually I can do another trip there,” ageless and hungry Jimmy Anderson eyes another Ashes in 2025-2026

Jimmy Anderson
England’s veteran pacer Jimmy Anderson is fired up for the home Ashes summer. Anderson, 40, is still hungry to uproot wickets; with 172 Test matches, he is just behind Sachin Tendulkar who donned the white jersey for India for 200 Tests.
Anderson expressed how the competition against arch-rival Australia can be super explosive. “I can’t see them (the Australians) doing anything but going toe-to-toe. They’re going to fight fire with fire and that’s going to make it so explosive and exciting,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. And that too at the time when the team is playing ‘Bazball’, under the influence of incredible Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
In the last few matches, Stokes displayed his cravings for a Test result, not caring which track they are playing. That’s what makes the purest form of cricket more exciting. It’s fearless cricket and it has awarded them nine wins from 10 matches. For this, Anderson hailed Stokes.
But Anderson and Stuart Broad were dropped from the side for the West Indies tour, and there was a “bit of anger and disappointment”. But Anderson did not take a rash decision (of retirement maybe) and tested if he still has the hunger, by playing county cricket.

Jimmy Anderson is the third highest wicket-taker in Test

When he was asked about how long he can play for the side, Anderson named the 2025-26 Ashes tour. He will be 42 by then. “If I go ‘you know what I’ll give Australia another crack in Australia’ that, at the minute, seems a mile away. But actually, if I just look after myself, try and bowl well, try and take wickets then that might creep up and I think all of a sudden ‘actually I can do another trip there.”
In a career spanning over two decades, Anderson has played 177 matches, scalping 675 wickets; he is the third on the list of highest wicket-takers of all time- behind Muthiah Muralidharan and Shane Warne.
Meanwhile, the five-match Ashes summer in England will start on June 16 and will be played till July 27. The first Test will be at Edgbaston, the second on June 28 at the Lord’s, while Headingley will host the third Test, starting July 6. The final Test will be at the Oval on July 27.
