Ajinkya Rahane was India’s vice-captain and one of the team’s most important batters. Unfortunately, a huge drop in form saw him out of the team for Shreyas Iyer. He finally got a chance to return to the team during the WTC Finals, where he scored an important 89 and 46.

Unfortunately after yet again a poor performance in India’s tour of West Indies, he was dropped from the team yet again. With calls for Rahane to return to the team, he released a video of himself practising, adding that he was ready to return to the Indian side. Rahane had also added that he wanted to play 100 Tests for India, with 85 Tests played for his country.

Despite all the preparations, Rahane is yet to score a single run in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He didn’t play the first match against Bihar but returned for Mumbai’s next two matches against Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. In both games he failed to score a single run, departing for golden ducks.

Mumbai won the toss first and elected to bat, but lost their first two wickets in the first over itself. Basil Thampi dismissed Jay Bista on the first ball by LBW, while Ajinkya Rahane was caught behind by Sanju Samson on the very next ball. Bhupen Lalwani and Shivam Dube scored half-centuries, but no one else in the team managed above thirty. After 78.4 overs, Mumbai are 251 all out, with play set to resume the next day.
