In 2022, India and England played the postponed 5th Test in Edgbaston. England had just started their “Bazball” revolution and had chased down a record breaking 378 runs. Based on their new style of play, a book called, “Bazball: The inside story of Test cricket revolution”, Alex Lees talked about his run-in with Indian star Virat Kohli.
Alex Lees said Virat Kohli tried his best to get under the skin of all English players while on the field, but Lees was left unfazed. Lees commented that he felt Kohli acted like an “idiot.” He added that Kohli tried sledging him as he was an inexperienced international player and it was “poor cricket chat.”
Lees said that when Kohli was on the field, he was getting under the skin of many English players and he wasn’t going to put up with his sledging. Lees knows that Kohli is one of the greatest players of all time, but his antics made him look like an “idiot”. After a point, Lees got frustrated and told Virat, “I’ve had two kids since you last scored a century“. England ended up winning the Test match as they chased down a record breaking 378 runs.
Virat Kohli’s incredible comeback after his century drought
From November 2019 to August 2022 , Virat Kohli had not scored a century in any international match. During this period, Kohli found it tough to score runs as well, having below average performances throughout matches. That was all until he scored his first century in 33 months against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.
Since then he has scored 8 centuries across all formats and is back in his red hot form. In the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, he has scored 354 runs in 5 innings with an average of 118. He scored his 48th ODI century against Bangladesh recently, and is just 2 centuries away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries.
