Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from the IPL earlier this year after his team, the Chennai Super Kings lifted their 5th IPL trophy. Days after he announced his retirement on Twitter, he was picked up by the Texas Super Kings, a franchise of Major League Cricket and a sister concern of CSK in the USA.
Now Ambati Rayudu has pulled out of MLC 2023 stating ‘personal reasons.’ This comes a day after the BCCI announced its cooling-off rule for retired players who plan to join foreign T20 cricket leagues and prevented them to do so immediately.
TSK issued a statement saying, “Ambati Rayudu will not be available to participate in the first season of the MLC with Texas Super Kings due to personal reasons. He will continue to cheer for the team from India.”
Did BCCI indirectly force Ambati Rayudu to pull out of MLC 2023?
The BCCI announced a ‘cooling off’ rule for retired Indian players under which they can not immediately join a foreign league after retirement. They will need to spend some amount of time as a retired player before they can start playing again.
Ambati Rayudu’s decision to pull out from the inaugural MLC season may share a major link with BCCI’s supposed new policy. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “We’ll come out with a policy to prevent the trend of pre-determined retirement. The office bearers will make a policy and send it back for approval.” So, it can be said that the Indian cricket board indirectly asked Rayudu to pull of the tournament.
