Assam cricketer who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Riyan Parag does not need an introduction. For someone who is nowhere near to making his International debut, Parag is a bit too famous but for all the wrong reasons.
He is portrayed as a player who does not know how to behave on the field or even on social media for that matter. But Parag cares a little about such opinions. Riyan Parag calls them faceless trolls and says that he has stopped giving a sh**t about them because no matter what he does, they will have a problem.
After dishing out a Player of the Series performance in the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy where Parag scored 354 runs in just five innings, the 21-year-old slammed the people who have a problem with him.
“People have a problem with me chewing gum. If my collar is up that’s a problem. I celebrate after taking a catch that’s a problem. They have a problem with me gaming and playing golf in my off time,” said Parag to The Indian Express.
Riyan Parag knows why people hate him but he won’t stop doing them
The 21-year-old then talked about the possible reasons why he is targeted by these trolls. Riyan Parag feels that his being the exact opposite of what people perceive about a cricketer makes people dislike him.
“I have an idea why people hate me. There is a rulebook about how you should play cricket. The T-shirt should be tucked in, the collar should be down, give respect to everyone, don’t sledge anyone, and I am completely the opposite.”
However, this does not mean he would change just for the sake of getting liked. Parag says that he has played his cricket the same way and will continue to do so. He claimed that people can’t digest that he is playing at such a big level despite playing the game for fun.
The 21-year-old then took aim at these trolls for not caring about cricketers’ families who do get affected by such hateful comments about their loved ones. “I have told her (his mother) to stay off Instagram and Facebook. They do go through trauma but I don’t think anyone cares about it,” said Parag.
