Renowned Bollywood singer Arijit Singh who was at the Narendra Modi Stadium to watch the most-awaited match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India vs Pakistan, recreated former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s shirtless celebration against England. As India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam right after the latter got to his half-century, Singh celebrated aggressively.
The singer was seen waving his India shirt in jubilation as Siraj got the best of Azam just like Sourav Ganguly was waving his shirt from the Lord’s balcony after India had defeated England in the Natwest series final in 2002.
After Siraj clean bowled Babar Azam and broke his 82-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan, Indian fans were up on their feet celebrating the wicket. Singh, who was also in the stands also celebrated wildly knowing the importance of the wicket. He waved his shirt aggressively while others around him also cheered. This was a bit unusual for the fans to see considering Singh’s inexpressive nature.
Babar Azam’s wicket triggers big collapse for Pakistan
Babar Azam’s wicket triggered a collapse as Pakistan stumbled to 191 from 155/2. After the Pakistan captain was dismissed by Siraj, the Men in Green lost wickets in quick succession. While Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed back-to-back, Japsrit Bumrah opened his account by cleaning Mohammad Rizwan who was eyeing a half-century.
The India pacer then sent Shadab Khan packing as Bumrah bowled another slower ball to perfection. After Khan was dismissed, Mohammad Nawaz had a job to do- bat with the tailenders and people Pakistan over 200. However, Hardik Pandya was in no mood to let Nawaz dominate things as he got the Pakistan batted caught at mid-on.
The rest of the job was done by Ravindra Jadeja who claimed the last two wickets. With this, every Indian bowler on the day, except Shardul Thakur, claimed two wickets.
