Arrest warrant issued for Nepal cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane in raping a 17-year-old minor by Kathmandu District Court

Nepal cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane is accused of rape and the Kathmandu District Court has issued a warrant againt him on Thursday, September 8. After the rape case report at the Gaushala Police Circle, the police had requested a warrant of arrest for Lamichhane from the district court.
A police officer confirmed the arrest warrent for Lamichhane.
“The district court has issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichhane for further investigation,” Dinesh Mainali, a spokesman for Kathmandu district police, told AFP.
Lamichhane left Nepal for Kenya tour on August 22 but the incident allegedly occured the night before. The 17-year-old girl said she was a fan of Lamichhane and that she used to chat with him on WhatsApp and Snapchat and that it was the cricketer who proposed a meeting. Lamichhane asked her to go on a trip to Bhaktapur, and she agreed.
When the hostel closed at 8 pm, she was asked to spend the night with him at a hotel in Pingalasthan of Kathmandu. She alleged that the 22-year-old Lamichhane drugged her and raped her twice.
She passed the necessary health examination and is currently under police protection.

Nepal Cricket Association has taken no measures so far
Sandeep Lamichhane is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League representing the Jamaica Tallawahs.
So far no measures have been taken against Sandeep Lamichhane by Nepal Cricket Association. In near future, we’ll see if Lamichhane will be summoned to the police station while still playing the CPL.
He has also played in the Indian Premier League in a couple of season in 2018 and 2019. He picked up 13 wickets in nine IPL matches. In various T20 leagues, he has claimed so far 193 wickets from 136 T20 games at an average of 17.76.
