Asia Cup 2022: “But apart from them, there is no world-class bowler” – Dasun Shanaka makes HUGE claim ahead of SL vs BAN clash
Dasun Shanaka
Dasun Shanaka confidently declared that Bangladesh is an easier opponent after the eight-wicket loss to Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 opener at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE.
Afghanistan is known for quiality spinners, but pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi surprised the Lankans by scalping three wickets with a maiden over helping Afghanistan bundle out the Lankans on just 105. Afghanistan responded comfortably with opener Hazratulla Zazai’s unbeaten 37 and wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanllah Gurbaz’s 40 runs off 18 balls.
Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B while Group A has India, Pakistan, and Hong Kong.
“If we compare with Afghanistan, Bangladesh is an easier opponent”- Dasun Shanaka
Despite the loss to Afghanistan, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka has made a claim of taking Bangladesh lightly. He stated that apart from Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan, there is no world-class bowler in Bangladesh.
“Afghanistan has a world-class bowling attack. We know Fizz [Mustafizur Rahman] is a good bowler. Shakib [Al Hasan] is a world-class bowler. But apart from them, there is no world-class bowler in the side. So if we compare with Afghanistan, Bangladesh is an easier opponent,” Shanaka said in the post-match press conference.
“We have been playing a lot of cricket with Bangladesh team, so we know the exact plans of them. So it will play a major role in the next game. So it will be a lot easier knowing their plans and knowing their players”, he added.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have locked-horns 12 times in T20Is and the latter have won eight times. The countries will face each other on 30th August at Sharjah in the Asia Cup 2022.
