India and Sri Lanka will face each other in the final of the 2023 Asia Cup on Sunday (September 17) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India advanced to the final on the back of victories against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super Four stage. Though they lost to Bangladesh, it did not affect them at all. Sri Lanka on the other hand, hammered Bangladesh and Pakistan in the Super Four to reach the summit clash.
Though star players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami were rested for the Bangladesh match, they will be included in the final. Players like Tilak Varma, Mohammed Shami, and Axar Patel won’t be a part of the XI. Patel played a crucial knock against Bangladesh but in his place Shardul Thakur might get the green card.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have displayed consistent performances throughout the tournament. Their 20-year-old bowler Dunith Wellalage ran through the batting lineup of the opponents and even got rid of the greats of the game like Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. However, pacer Maheesh Theekshana won’t be with the team in the final as he picked up an injury and got ruled out of the tournament. Sri Lanka named Sahan Arachchige as Theekshana’s replacement.
India’s predicted playing XI:
Batters: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan
Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur
Keeper: KL Rahul (wk)
Sri Lanka’s predicted playing XI:
Batters: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Pramod Madushan
Bowlers: Dunith Wellalage, Matheesha Pathirana
All-rounders: Dasun Shanaka(c), Sahan Arachchige, Dhananjaya de Silva
Keeper: Kusal Mendis(wk)
What will happen if the Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka gets washed out?
The bad news is that rain is likely to play spoilsport on the night of the summit clash. If rain interrupts the match, then it will get shifted to the reserve day on Monday (September 18).
However, rain is expected on Monday too. If at all rain stops the match on the reserve day, then both India and Sri Lanka will share the 2023 Asia Cup title.
