The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday confirmed the schedule (dates and venues) for the 2023 Asia Cup. The continental showpiece event will be held in a hybrid model with Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosting the tournament. The 2023 Asia Cup will kick off on 31 August and will be played till 17 September. A total of 13 matches will be played during the course of the tournament. 

About the venues, Pakistan will host four matches on their turf while Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches with hosting rights staying with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). India’s matches will be held in Sri Lanka.

“We are delighted to announce that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held from 31st August to 17th September 2023 and will see the elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, compete in a total of 13 exciting ODI matches. The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka,” confirmed ACC on Thursday.

Six teams to be divided in two groups for Asia Cup 2023

The Asian Cricket Council also confirmed the format that will be followed during the 2023 Asia Cup. A total of six teams- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will participate in the continental showpiece event. These six teams will compete across 13 matches which will be played in two rounds. Also, the six teams will be initially divided into groups of three. The bottom-placed team will be eliminated after all three teams in a group have played against each other and the top two teams will progress to the next round.

“The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final,” said ACC.
