Asia Cup is soon going to kick start from August 27 and for the second time, the tournament will be in T20 format. India is the most successful team among the six teams. The six team has been divided into two groups. Group A has India, Pakistan, and Hong Kong while Group B has Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Some of the high-profile players will be taking part in Asia Cup and we have selected five of them among the six teams to watch out for in Asia Cup 2022.

Virat Kohli (India)

India batter Virat Kohli will attract many eyes, not because of his single-handedly helping India win matches but of his suffering from prolonged lean patch. The India vs Pakistan match (on August 28) will also be his 100th T20 match. It will be interesting to watch him play in the tournement. Not to forget, his records against Pakistan, which is pretty good.

He was given a month’s rest. He wasn’t a part of West Indies and Zimbabwe tour, which India won easily. In T20, he has 3,308 runs at 50.02.

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

This stalwart batter from Pakistan has been breaking records. He is in supreme form, consistent and unstopabble. Ranked number one in T20Is, he will form a deadly opening combination with Mohammad Rizwan. Azam is currently the sixth-highest scorer in T20 cricket as he amassed 2,686 runs.

Under his captaincy, Pakistan were able to defeat the Kohli-led India in the T20 World Cup in 2021 and that was also for the first time in history that Pakistan were able to defeat India in the World Cups.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)

All-rounder Shakid Al Hasan will be leading Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. He will be using the leadership experience leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup. He is also the number two all-rounder in the world.

He has the most T20I wickets (121) at 19.95 and has scored 2000-plus runs in T20Is.

Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)

Big names amongs batters have often talked how they find Rashid Khan a difficult bowler. This young spinner will be Afghanistan’s main asset as he’s also the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket and is just behind Shakib and Tim Southee. He instills fear among the batters in the middle overs. Afghanistan will be depending heavily on Rashid.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)

This young Sri Lankan spinner has already made a name for himself in the international cricket. He can ball at different phases of the game and he is also a big-match player. He has already 62 wickets at an average of under 15. He had a successful stint while representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He is ranked six in the ICC T20I bowling rankings. He also had scalped a hat-trick at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, which proved that he is a big match player.

Babar Hayat (Hong Kong)

He has played 31 T20I and has amassed 720 runs at a strike rate of 126.8 with the highest score being 122. He has one century and four half-centuries to his name. In the Asia Cup qualifier match against UAE, he had scored an unbeaten 38 which helped his team win the match. Now Hong Kong will play with the Group A team that also has India and Pakistan.
