One of the weirdest moments occurred during the 3rd WODI between Australia and South Africa. The match was the decider of the series, with the scoreline 1-1. Australia started off well, with Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney scoring half-centuries. Tahlia McGrath contributed with an important 44 as well, as Australia scored 277/9 in their 50 overs.

The highlight of the inning though, came during the 48th over. Alana King had just come into bat, scoring one off 5. She faced pacer Masabata Klass, who was looking in good form, in the last ball of the over.

King was greeted with an above waist no-ball, which she managed to pull away for a six. Her bat’s swing ended up hitting the stumps instead, but survived as the umpire had already called a no-ball. She punished Klass with another six in the free-hit.

According to the Marylebone Cricket Club, a batter can be dismissed on a no-ball only in three ways. It is either by run-out, or if they hit the ball twice or obstruct the field. As King did not get out from those three methods, she survived.

Australia bowl out South Africa

Chasing 278, the South African sides failed to even put up a fight as they lost the match by 110 runs (DLS method). Kim Garth and Tahlia McGrath got two wickets each within the first 11 overs, with McGrath getting her wickets in the 11 over. In the 14th over, there was a rain delay, which caused the match’s overs to be reduced.

From needing 215 from 36 overs, the equation was changed to 175 in 17 overs. Sune Luus and Nadine de Klerk built up a partnership of 50, but they then lost five wickets in the span of 17 balls, being 102/4 to 116/9. Alana King had picked up four of those wickets. Grath picked up the last wicket of the match, with Australia winning the series.
