Australia skipper Pat Cummins looked lackluster while leading his side in the Ashes series against England, opined several notable personalities in the cricket fraternity, especially those who were keeping a close eye on the series. There was not much criticism when Australia were leading the series 2-0, but when England won the third Test in Headingly, eye brows raised over decisions made by Cummins.

In the fourth Test, Australia dropped frontline spinner Todd Murphy, as a consequence of which, former Aussie greats started questioning Cummins’ tactics. Australia’s bowling had no answer in front of Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow who were making a mockery of the Cummins-led bowling attack, with their Bazball-style batting.

There is no doubt that Cummins has to shoulder heavy responsibilities, as a captain and as a fast bowler. That is why, former Victorian state skipper and now coach, Darren Berry, made a bold prediction on Cummins’ future, said the 30-year-old will resign from Test captaincy, to solely focus on his bowling right after this Ashes series. Berry feels Aussie management could either go toward ex-skipper Steve Smith or else make Travis Head or Mitchell Marsh the new leader.

Pat Cummins is a magnificent cricketer no doubt but remember this msg- he will resign from the captaincy after the Ashes series. The question is do they go back to Smudge or move forward to Head or Marsh?” Berry wrote on Twitter.

There is massive furore on Twitter after Australia, with rain’s help, retained the Ashes urn as the rain halted the fifth day’s play. The fourth Test in Manchester was a draw and as Australia were already leading by 2-1, they retained the urn.

War of words started from both sides, including from their media. Ben Stokes and Co. played some interesting cricket in the fourth Test but unfortunately, it did them no favour. The fifth Test will be played from July 27 at The Oval.
