The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is one of the most enjoyable Test series. Fans across the world wait for the two Test sides in the world, India and Australia, to clash and are always treated to exhilarating cricket.

With the hosts of the series changing each edition, it is now time for Australia to host the anticipated bilateral series. India had last hosted it in 2023, winning 2-1. Now Australia will attempt to win the series for the first time since 2014. It will also be the first time since 1979/80 that the BGT will have 5 or more games.

The series opener will be in Perth’s Optus Stadium, where India has played only one match and lost it. The next will be the day/night Test in the Adelaide Oval, the same venue where India were bowled out for 36 runs

The third Test will be held in the Brisbane Cricket Ground, also known as the Gabba, where India won the historic 2020/21 BGT. The Boxing Day Test will be held at the usual Melbourne Cricket Ground on 26th December, and the Sydney Cricket Ground will host the final Test.

Can Australia win the BGT for the first time since 2014?

Since their 2013/14 Border Gavaskar Trophy triumph, Australia have failed to win a single edition of the series. When they toured India in 2017, they lost the series 2-1 with the hosts winning the 2nd and final Test. In 2018/19, India beat the Australians at their home for the first time.

The same happened two years later, as India won a historic Test series with many setbacks. The 2023 edition of the series saw yet another India win, with the visitors struggling to bat against spin.

Now the Aussies look at the 2024/25 BGT as their attempt to finally put their hands on the trophy. Playing at home, they have scheduled the first three Tests at grounds India have struggled in.

In the lead up to the series, India will be hosting New Zealand and Bangladesh for Tests, with the Kiwis playing three and Bangladesh playing two. This BGT series will be Australia’s first Test series in over 10 months, with their last series with the West Indies ending with a draw. Before the start of the series, they host Pakistan for three ODIs and three T20s.
