“Out of playoffs”- Avesh Khan, Jason Holder help LSG bundle out KKR; Lucknow tops points table

Jason Holder and Avesh Khan

With some displays of brilliant bowling from Avesh Khan and Jason Holder, Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) bundled out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 75 runs on Saturday, May 7 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Apart from the Caribbean all-rounders Andre Russell ‘s 45 and Sunil Narine’s 22, no batsmen in KKR could score double digit runs, although Aaron Finch scored 14 runs.

KKR had won the toss and opted to bowl first. LSG played brilliantly, first, from their top batters and the middle-over batsmen also contributed big runs to finish the innings.

However, it wasn’t the case with the Knight Riders. Baba Indrajith and Aaron Finch walked in to open the innings and LSG bowler Mohsin Khan stunned all with first maiden over in the first over itself and with a wicket of Indrajith who walked back after the duck-out. Next Dushmantha Chameera trapped Shreyas Iyer for 6 runs in 9 balls. Aaron Finch then gave away his wicket to Jason Holder.

When Andre Russell came in, Kolkata must have seen a glimmer of hope in him as they could watch a quick fire from the Caribbean big man. He scored 45 runs in 19 balls by smashing brilliantly 5 sixes and 3 fours with an incredible strike rate of 236.84. However, in the 13th over, Avesh Khan at last got rid of the dangerous ‘Russell-Muscle’. Russell was just swinging at every ball that was delivered but this time, he got a thick top edge.

The ball flied down towards the short third man and Holder had slide in from the third man fence to take a good low catch. With Russell gone, KKR’s hope were gone also as they’re reduced to 85/6.

Even Sunil Narine played a quick game by hitting a six and three fours, scoring 22 runs off 12 balls but it wasn’t of any use. Next batsmen faltered quickly and the Knight Riders got bundled out for 101 runs in the 15th over. LSG had scored 176/7 in their 20 overs.

Every LSG bowler has grabbed a wicket. Mohsin Khan, Chameera, and Ravi Bishnoi picked up one each, and Holder and Avesh Khan grabbed three wickets each.

Win this win, KL Rahul-led LSG superseded Gujarat Titans’ first position on the points table. LSG have won 8 games in their 11 matches and have achieved 16 points, equaling Titans’ record but with more Net Run Rate. This is 7th loss in 11 matches for Kolkata.
