“Baba Dakeshwar Nath,” memes galore as Rohit Sharma becomes batsman with most ducks in IPL history

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma is having a hard time with the bat in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma has managed only one half-century in the ten matches he has played so far in the tournament. While Sharma was getting starts in the early phase of IPL 2023, the MI captain is failing to do even that now. Rohit Sharma got out for a three-ball duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.

As the two most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League locked horns at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Rohit was expected to create an impact. The MI captain tried to trick the opposition by demoting himself in the batting order. However, the move did not work as Mumbai lost an early wicket and Rohit had to walk out to bat in the powerplay.

The Mumbai captain then got outsmarted by his counterpart, MS Dhoni. The CSK skipper walked up to the stumps against Deepak Chahar and made Rohit play an unusual lap shot. As expected, Rohit could not time his shot at all and got caught out. It was the second consecutive duck for the MI captain.

Also, Rohit registered an unusual feat to his name with this duck. Rohit became the player with the most ducks in IPL history. This triggered a meme fest on Twitter as users started bashing the MI captain left, right, and centre.

Nehal Wadhera rises to the challenge

nehal wadhera

While the top order of Mumbai Indians failed to live up to the expectations, Nehal Wadhera rose to the challenge and scored a stunning half-century. The southpaw scored a 51-ball 64 and helped MI recover from the early blows. Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 22) also made a handy contribution in the middle. On the back of these two knocks, MI managed to post 139/8 in their designated 20 overs.
