News has emerged that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam got involved in a heated encounter with star paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi after the team got eliminated from the 2023 Asia Cup. Pakistan had to win their last Super Four match against Sri Lanka but they suffered a two-wicket loss.

After the match, as per Pakistan’s Bol News, Babar was angry in the dressing room, telling the senior players that they were not taking responsibility and lecturing about the team’s shortcomings. But Shaheen interrupted and asked him to at least appreciate those players who did well.

But Babar shot back as he did not like Shaheen’s interruption, saying that he knew who played well during the match. To stop this temper flare-up, Mohammad Rizwan and the team head coach had to intervene.

The broadcaster of the Bol News further said that right after the press conference, Babar went to the team bus and after reaching the team hotel, he did not meet anyone.

Pakistan after winning the toss, chose to bat first. They faced a collapse in the beginning but Mohammad Rizwan shouldered the responsibility to take Pakistan to 252/7. Rizwan scored an unbeaten 86 off 73 balls, while Abdullah Shafique and Iftikhar Ahmed added 52 and 47 runs respectively. Babar Azam could score just 29 runs from 35 balls.

From Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis‘ clutch innings, along with Sadeera Samarawickrama’s and Charith Asalanka‘s knocks helped Sri Lanka chase down the target. Mendis scored 91, while Samarawickrama and Aslanka contributed 48 and 49* runs.

Pakistan got knocked out of the tournament after this match. And now Sri Lanka and India will face each other in the final of the 2023 Asia Cup on Sunday (September 17) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
