“King is back!”- Babar Azam outclasses Virat Kohli again with heroic ton; rewrites history books with massive opening stand with Rizwan
Babar Azam
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam answered the critics in style with a century-knock in the second T20I against England on Thursday, September 22 in Karachi. In the chase of 200, Babar’s 203-3 runs stand with opening partner Mohammad Rizwan helped Pakistan tie the seven-match T20I series by 1-1.
It was also Babar’s second ton in the shortest format. The 28-year-old surpassed Virat Kohli, becoming second quickest batter to score 8,000 runs in T20Is. Kohli took 243 innings to reach that mark while Babar played only 218 innings to do so. West Indies’ legendary Chris Gayle still stands top with 213 innings.
Babar has also become the fifth highest run-getter in the format, surpassing Australia captain Aaron Finch. Finch has 2877 runs in 93 matches while Babar has now 2895 runs in 82 matches. The list of highest run-getters is topped by India captain Rohit Sharma (3631) followed by Kohli (3586) and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (3497) at the second and third spot.
When Babar was questioned about the series of low scores, he said: “I always had the belief and you need that as a sportsman. The team always supported me and kept backing me.”
Meanwhile, in that second T20I against England, Babar stitched a 203-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan. While the skipper scored an unbeaten 66-ball 110, Rizwan played an unbeaten knock of 88 runs, helping Pakistan win the match by 10-wickets.
Their 203-run stand is the highest in T20I chase. With this stand, they added 1929 runs and broke Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan‘s record of 1743 runs. Babar and Rizwan also have seven century partnerships in T20Is.
