Ever since Pakistan were knocked out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, the entire Pakistan Cricket Board has been chaotic. The captain, coaches, selectors and even the PCB president were replaced.

Now with a new head, the PCB is looking to remove Shaheen Afridi from his role as captain. The board wants to reappoint Babar Azam, who was removed as captain after the 2023 ODI World Cup. According to Cricket Pakistan, the batter met the PCB but is not entirely sure if he wants to take the role or not.

Unhappy with how he was dismissed, the star batter wants confirmation from the PCB that they will not treat him the same way as before. The PCB had kept Mohammad Rizwan as an alternative as well, but decided to approach Azam instead.

Afridi has captained Pakistan for only five T20Is during their tour of New Zealand, winning only one match. As of now, a camp is being conducted by the PCB and army in Kakul with 29 players ahead of their T20I series with New Zealand.

Azam’s appointment could also hamper the chances of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim to return to the Pakistan side. The duo recently announced that they will be returning to international cricket, but they have their differences with the former Pakistan captain.

Pakistan eye former Mumbai Indians as next Pakistan head coach

Ever since their disastrous 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not gotten a permanent head coach. Mohammad Hafeez, who was appointed as their Director of Cricket, acted as Pakistan’s acting coach during their tour of Australia and New Zealand. After those tours, he was fired.

They attempted to sign Shane Watson and Darren Sammy, but both rejected their offers. Now they have identified Luke Ronchi as their new head coach. Ronchi, who currently is NZ’s batting coach, has been offered the role but he has not responded yet.
