Former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif openly criticized Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for his slow strike rate. Asif opined that he can bowl a maiden over to Babar because he cannot play good deliveries. After his controversial statement, Babar’s father Azam Siddique shared a note to give a befitting response to Asif.
Azam Siddique recalled an Under-16 match where Babar blasted 11 boundaries against Asif to score 84 runs. After the dismissal, Babar got angry at Asif for using abusive language toward him. Siddique further said that he reminded his son of the 11 boundaries he smacked against Asif.
After that match, Babar went for the trails of ZTBL at the National Cricket Academy. Asif there urged the officials to include Babar in the team of those 11 boundaries he smashed against him. After writing down the anecdote, Babar’s father urged the fans to not attack Asif due to his controversial statement. He ended the long post by writing that Babar would play a maiden over against Asif out of respect for him.
“Dear Mr. Mohammad Asif, every individual is responsible for their actions. If such a time comes, Babar will gladly play a maiden over against you in order to show you respect,” Siddique wrote on his note, which was shared by Pakistani journalist Farid Khan on X.

Mohammad Asif’s controversial cricket career
The 40-year-old Mohammad Asif played for Pakistan’s national team from 2005 to 2010. Though he was one of the best bowlers in the world back then, controversy marred his career.
In 2006, he was tested positive for anabolic steroid Nandrolone. He was then tested positive for a banned substance during the Indian Premier League (IPL). And in 2011, he was then accused of match-fixing for which he received a ban of seven years and was given a one-year prison sentence.
Asif played 23 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 11 T20Is for Pakistan. In the three formats, he scalped 103, 46, and 13 wickets respectively.
