Amid Pakistan’s below-average performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, news about Babar Azam has been circulating on social media. A private WhatsApp chat between Babar and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) COO Salman Naseer has been leaked by a news channel.
This happened after former Pakistani cricketer Rashid Latif claimed that the PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf was not replying to phone calls from Babar. Latif also made another sensational claim, that the PCB has not paid the salaries to the Pakistani cricketers for five months. Amid the surprising claims, a screenshot of the alleged leaked chat between Babar and Salman went viral.

Salman texted: “Babar, there’s also been this news circulating on TV and social media that you have been calling Chairman and he’s not answering. Have you called him recently?“
And the receiver, ‘Babar Azam New’ wrote: “Salam Salman bhai, ma ny to sir ko koi call nai ke (Hello Salman brother, I did not call sir).“

Fans criticize the news channel for showing the screenshot of Babar Azam’s private chat
Though it cannot be confirmed the veracity of the leaked chat, whether it is indeed from Babar Azam, fans got angry, saying the news channel shouldn’t have made the chat public by keeping in mind the journalistic ethics. Some believe it’s a strategy of the PCB to clear their image after Latif’s claims, which is why Salman shared the screenshots to the media. Fans also said the screenshot is fake.

Babar Azam is currently in India, captaining the Men in Green in the World Cup. The team was expected to give tough competition but they pulled off just two victories from five matches, against Netherlands and Sri Lanka. They will next face Bangladesh on Monday (October 30).
