After many poor dismissals came a 73-run at a crucial time when the Royal Challengers Bangalore needed it the most. It’s Virat Kohli, who was having the worst season till this must-win match for RCB. RCB defeated table topper Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets on Thursday, May 19 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Hardik Pandya’s 62* had helped Gujarat Titans to put a decent total of 169. But Faf du Plessis-led RCB did no mistake here and with contributions from the top order batsmen Virat Kohli, du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, RCB reached the target easily.

Maxwell had a good day today, showcasing his all-rounding skills in his bowling, fielding and then in batting while chasing. He had first taken a stunning catch to dismiss Shubman Gill. Then his bowling had sent back Matthew Wade but, it was a wrong call from the third umpire due to a glitch in the ultra-edge. Matthew Wade walked back angrily to the dressing room and threw away his helmet and bat.

The batsman who had smashed a huge 973 runs in a single season, had witnessed how bad form does to batsmen. After three golden ducks or scoring most of the time single digit runs, it was evident that ‘King Kohli’ must have had a lot of crickets previously and was suffering from bio-bubble fatigue; was even suggested that he should take rest.

But no one today is happier than the Virat Kohli fans. Fans have anticipated that when Kohli will start to have his form back, he will score big and he indeed he did it.

Virat Kohli walked out with opening partner Faf du Plessis and played till the 17th over when a quick short ball and googly from Rashid Khan sent the batsman dance down the track and swung it wildly across but missed. Wade collected the ball and clipped the bails off to end the brilliant innings. He had scored 73 off 54 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Faf du Plessis had scored 44 runs off 38 balls with 5 fours while Glenn Maxwell scored a fast 40 runs off 18 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes to end RCB’s innings with a crucial win.
