“In dono ko permanent rest de do please”-BCCI announces Windies ODI squad; Rohit, Kohli, Bumrah to rest, Dhawan to lead
Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah
For the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, which will start from July 22, India have announced a 16-member squad where Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the team while Ravindra Jadeja will be made the vice-captain.
Regular India captain Rohit Sharma will be given rest and so will Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Shami. After losing the rescheduled fifth Test against England, Indian team are preparing for the upcoming T20Is and ODIs against England. The first T20I will start from tomorrow, that is July 7.
The first three ODIs against West Indies is scheduled to be played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
But fans have started slamming BCCI for giving rest to Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma because these two players, along with Kohli were absent in the five-match T20I series against South Africa which were played before the England tour. Rohit Sharma didn’t play the England Test after he was tested Covid positive that ruled him out of the Test. Fans are asking questions why Rohit is given rested when he didn’t even play the South Africa T20Is and the Test against England.
The heroics from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow on Day 5 with both scoring impressive tons ensured England a 7-wicket win. That made the fans fuming over BCCI’s decision to ‘sack’ Kohli’s captaincy and not including Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad.
BCCI shared a post on their social media handles to announce the squad. Check their post below:
