The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday released a medical update of the Team India players- Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy. While Bumrah and Krishna are in the last stages of their rehabilitation, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will be needing some time.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who met with an accident in December last year has made remarkable progress and has started batting as well as keeping.
“He has made significant progress in his rehabilitation and has commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets. He is currently following a fitness program designed for him which includes strength, flexibility, and running,” said BCCI in its statement about Pant.
“The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organize. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” said BCCI said about Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer need time to recover
Talking about KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the BCCI said that the two batters have resumed batting in the nets and the doctors are happy about their progress. However, the two middle-order batters will need time to reach the final stage of rehabilitation. BCCI also said that the doctors will increase their workload in the coming days.
“They have resumed batting in the nets and are currently undergoing strength and fitness drills. The BCCI Medical Team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in terms of both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming days,” said BCCI.
Notably, while Rahul is recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during IPL 2023, Iyer underwent back surgery. The two batters are crucial for India’s ODI World Cup plans.
