The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has quashed all the rumors about him visiting Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. Shah has said that he has no intentions to go across the border. He also slammed Pakistani media outlets for spreading false news and said that it was done deliberately.
Notably, ever since Jay Shah and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Zaka Ashraf met in South Africa on the sidelines of an ICC meeting, reports in Pakistan media have been doing the rounds about Jay Shah visiting Pakistan. Many Pakistani media outlets claimed that Shah accepted Ashraf’s invitation to come to Pakistan.
The BCCI Secretary, meanwhile, has denied all such claims. “I have not agreed to anything. This is just plain miscommunication. Probably done deliberately or mischievously. I’ll not be making any visit,” Jay Shah was quoted saying by News18 CricketNext.
A BCCI source was also quoted in the report saying that Shah going across the border does not make any sense as India are all set to play all of their matches in Sri Lanka. “Unless this is for mischievous reasons. The two met and discussed the Asia Cup and World Cup in India later this year but that was it,” said the BCCI source.

What happened during Jay Shah and Zaka Ashraf’s meeting?
The Chiefs of two cricketing boards met in Durban and discussed about the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. As per reports, Jay Shah and Zaka Ashraf talked about Pakistan’s participation in the ODI World Cup and it is believed the PCB Chief has agreed to send the team to India to take part in the quadrennial showpiece event.
Notably, Pakistan Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari had threatened that Pakistan will not travel to India for the World Cup if the BCCI does not send its team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. However, as it turns out, it was a hoax from Mazari and Babar Azam and Co. will be in India for the 50-over World Cup, scheduled to take place in October-November.
