The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla visited Pakistan after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) invited them and the board members of other Asian countries for a grand dinner party. It was a cricket-related visit with no political agenda and the PCB has made a demand.
PCB demanded the resumption of cricket between India and Pakistan. The two neighbors don’t play against each other in bilateral series due to political tensions and only face each other in the ICC events. Rajeev Shukla praised Pakistan for their hospitality and revealed that the decision to resume bilateral matches between them will be decided by the Indian government.
“It was a two-day visit and a good visit. The Governor hosted a dinner in our honor. The hospitality of the people of the Pakistan Cricket Board was also good. Their demand was that cricket between the two countries should be resumed. We said it would be decided by the government and we would do whatever our government would say,” Shukla told reporters (via NDTV).
India and Pakistan have not met in a bilateral series since 2012. India last visited Pakistan for a bilateral series back in 2006. But they last played in Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup.
India and Pakistan met again in 2023 in Asia Cup
The 2023 Asia Cup is being hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan is the original host but due to India’s reluctance to not send the team there due to security concerns, PCB prepared a hybrid model and as a result, Pakistan is hosting just four matches, while the rest of the matches are being played in Sri Lanka.
India and Pakistan met on Saturday (September 2) at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. But as Sri Lanka is witnessing the monsoon, the rain has been affecting the matches. India-Pakistan match washed out due to rain.
