England captain Ben Stokes got emotional as he hugged Mark Wood after the team’s win in the third Ashes Test. As Wood played a crucial role in England’s win in the third Test, Stokes hugged the pacer and shouted animatedly. England won the third Test by three wickets to keep their hopes alive for a series win.
Chasing 251, England lost two early wickets as Mitchell Starc got Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali in quick succession. Soon, Zak Crawley was sent packing by Mitchell Marsh. Meanwhile, Joe Root and Harry Brook formed a little partnership before Pat Cummins got his matchup, Root. The Australia captain got Root caught behind the wicket.
Ben Stokes survived the last few minutes before lunch but could not hold his ground on the other side of the break. Mitchell Starc once again struck to send back Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. It all came down to Brook who showed nerves of steel and scored a gutsy 75. However, the young batter could not see England though as Starc bounced him up.
With over 20 runs to get and only three wickets left, England feared another defeat and conceding Australia an unassailable lead. But how could it be possible with Mark Wood still to bat? Wood, who entertained everyone with his three sixes in the first inning, once again played a quick cameo (16* off 8) and won the game with Chris Woakes (32*) hitting the winning runs.

Notably, Mark Wood was named the Player of the Match for his seven wickets and 40 crucial runs which he scored at a strike rate of 250.
