Ben Stokes has not had much of an impact in the IPL despite being bought plenty of times for high prices. Since 2017, he has played for Rising Pune Super Giant, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Being bought for Rs. 16.25 Crores in 2023 by CSK, it looks like he won’t feature for the Chennai based franchise again.
In a statement released by CSK on their website, they announced that the England captain will not play in the 2024 IPL, stating that he was managing his workload and said they supported the decision. Stokes will play the 5-match Test series before the IPL and the 2024 T20 World Cup after the IPL.

Stokes didn’t have much of a contribution during CSK’s 2023 IPL triumph, playing only 2 matches. He scored only 15 runs and bowled one over. The English all-rounder revealed that he was going to undergo knee injury, an injury that stopped him from bowling in February 2023. He will also be hopeful to return for the 5-match Test series against India.
Many netizens not surprised by Ben Stokes’s absence, believes CSK will find good replacement
Netizens were not surprised by Ben Stoke’s decision to miss out the IPL. Many called him the worst CSK buy, due to his price tag and contribution to the title-winning CSK side. Some said they wanted Rachin Ravindra as his replacement, after his incredible World Cup campaign. Some supported his decision, stating how important the Angelo de Mello Trophy and the ICC T20 World Cup are.

Check out their reactions:
Thanks to Stokes’ decision to miss out and Ambati Rayudu’s retirement, CSK’s purse for the 2024 IPL Auction has increased to Rs. 28 crores. CSK will go into the Auction with a huge purse and will aim to replace Stokes and Rayudu with the huge funds they have.
