Brendon McCullum is set to be appointed as England Test’s coach; will leave KKR after IPL 2022

Kolkata Knight Riders’ current head coach Brendon McCullum has been appointed as England’s Test coach. He has also handed his notice at the franchise about the game and that after KKR’s final game, he won’t be available further to assist the team in the next season.
According to a report in English news outlet Daily Mail, “A second day of interviews on Tuesday (May 10) ended with the New Zealander becoming a strong candidate for the red-ball job rather than the white-ball role in England’s new set-up”.
Brendon McCullum’s first task would be to prepare the team for his own home team, that is, New Zealand for a three-Test match series next month. New Zealand has won the World Test Championship last summer.
“He informed us that he won’t be part of KKR going ahead as he will be taking up a job as England cricket team coach. He informed us during a team meeting a few days ago,” a KKR insider said.

KKR’s bad season this year
Rob Key, England’s new director of men’s cricket said last week that a job in the IPL would not stop someone to be appointed as a coach.
“You have to move with the times and I can’t see why Jos Buttler, for instance, could play the whole IPL but our coaches couldn’t be there for it all. Who knows where the IPL will be in five years’ time but at the moment there’s no international cricket when the IPL’s on. I’d rather have the best person for 10 months a year than someone not as good for 12.”
Last year, Brendon McCullum had guided the Knight Riders to the finals where they were defeated by MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. But this season isn’t for them as they have struggled; are not even in top four.
