Australia all-rounder Cameron Green missed out on the opportunity to dismiss England’s best batter Joe Root in the second Ashes Test. Although the Aussie bowler got Root caught out, the umpire signaled Not Out as Green had overstepped.
The tall Aussie bowler used his shoulders, hit the deck hard, and bowled a well-directed slower bouncer at Root who could not adjust for the pace and ended up getting hit on the back of his bat. The ball lobbed up in the air and was easily caught by Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
However, there was a twist in the tale. The on-field umpire Ahsan Raza signaled for a no-ball and called Joe Root back who was halfway down to the pavilion.
Cameron Green has trouble keeping his feet inside the line
Cameron Green had dismissed Ollie Pope a couple of deliveries earlier with the same short-ball ploy and almost got Joe Root as well. But the Aussie bowler failing to keep his feet inside the white line cost Australia a big wicket. This was not the first instance where Green had overstepped. In fact, the pacer had already overstepped four times before this delivery.
With this missed opportunity, Australia gave a second chance to Root who has been in some serious form. The former England captain had scored a hundred in the first Test and now might as well look to overshadow Steve Smith‘s century in the second Test. Nevertheless, Australia scored a good 416 in their first innings but England continued to threaten them with their aggressive batting.
