Cheteshwar Pujara and Steve Smith to play together ahead of World Test Championship Final
Pujara talked about this interesting partnership with Smith and said that he will have mixed feelings about sharing the dressing room with one of the fierce opponents.
India’s Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara and former Australia captain Steve Smith will share the dressing room ahead of the World Test Championship Final in June. The two Test prodigies for their respective countries will play their trade for Sussex in the County Championship. While Pujara is already in England leading Sussex, Smith will join the camp in the coming days and will play as many as three matches.
This combination will allow Sussex to boast the most high-profile batting lineup with Pujara at No.3 and Steve Smith and No.4. Notably, India’s batting stalwart, Pujara has been representing Sussex in the County Championship for a while now. Smith, on the other hand, recently signed up for the county team to prepare for the WTC Final as well as the Ashes 2022-23.
The three matches that Smith is expected to play for Sussex will be away games against Worcestershire (May 4-7), Leicestershire (May 11-14) and a home against Glamorgan (May 18-22). Playing these games will help the Aussie stalwart to prepare for the highly-anticipated WTC Final as well as the marquee Ashes series.

Cheteshwar Pujara excited to have Steve Smith on the same team
Pujara talked about this interesting partnership with Smith and said that he will have mixed feelings about sharing the dressing room with one of the fierce opponents. “We have spoken, but most of the time we have played against each other. It is never for the same team, so it will be exciting to have him on the same side,” Pujara told Sussex Cricket after the recent game against Gloucestershire.
“I will try and get his thoughts, try and know him a little better.” Pujara admitted that it will be mixed feelings, playing alongside Smith with whom he would be locked in a tough fight within three weeks of sharing the dressing room. We will be playing the WTC final, so it will be mixed feelings. On the field we always have good battles, but off the field we are good friends.”
