“CSK could think beyond these stars” – Ravi Shastri singles out the veterans that under performed for Chennai in IPL 2022

CSK’s dismal season had a lot to do with the inconsistency of their batting line-up. Many senior players like Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja failed to perform with the bat when needed, and thus ended up losing games for their teams. Eventually, MS Dhoni was compelled to even drop a few players to make room for youngsters. Ravi Shastri also had his say on the likes of Uthappa and Rayudu.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Shastri said, “(should CSK think beyond Rayudu and Uthappa) CSK have been doing well for several years, but we often tend to forget Suresh Raina’s contribution. He was a proven player in the IPL. He used to provide stability by scoring runs consistently while batting at No.3. He made things easier for the other batters. They need to find such a player. While Rayudu and Uthappa will still play, it will make a lot of difference if they get some cushion.”

“Shouldn’t be given added pressure of captaincy” – Ravi Shastri on CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja had the most controversial season of his IPL career this year. Handed the captaincy 2 days before IPL and stripped off it, 8 games into the season. A string of bad performances didn’t help either. Eventually, an injury cut his tournament short while rumours of his falling out with CSK team management also lured fuel to fire.
While speaking about Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Shastri said, “Ravindra Jadeja is a top cricketer. He is one of the best all-rounders in the world. He shouldn’t be given the added pressure of captaincy and he should be allowed to play his game freely. He is a matchwinner and has played exceptionally well in the last two years or so.”
