Chennai Super Kings have endured a difficult and disappointing IPL season this year. To make matters worse, their former captain Ravindra Jadeja’s performances or their treatment of the player hasn’t really helped. It now seems that Ravindra Jadeja could be heading for the exit from the Chennai side as reported by IndieSport.
In a surprise to many, Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain of Chennai Super Kings 2 days before the new season was about to begin. However, what many expected to be a new era for CSK turned out to be a downhill in performances and management. With the player himself not being able to perform and the results only ending in defeats, Ravindra Jadeja decided to step down as captain midway through the season.
“Can’t understand this” – Sources believe Ravindra Jadeja’s injury might be exaggerated
While Chennai found a bit of form when MS Dhoni took over the captaincy reigns again. What followed was worse for Jadeja. The player got a rib injury in Chennai’s game against RCB and sat out the next couple of games. Soon after CSK management announced that they had released Ravindra Jadeja and he would no longer participate in the tournament.
Sources close to Jadeja reportedly said, “Yes he (Ravindra Jadeja) is upset & very hurt. The captaincy issue could have been handled better. Everything was too sudden, too abrupt. Any human being would get hurt by the way things shaped up. I don’t want to say much on this. Yes he had a injury but how serious I am not aware”
Later on, Sanjay Manjeraker was also quoted saying to ESPN Cricinfo, “On the ground, it didn’t seem like a big injury. So you can say that something or the other is happening.” There have been multiple stages where the CSK team management gave failed to deliver this season when it came to Ravindra Jadeja. Especially when it came to captaincy. Not to mention, they unfollowed the player on social media.
Although it was reported that Jadeja voluntarily stepped down, the CSK camp was quoted saying, “He (Ravindra Jadeja) looked lethargic, subdued & unimaginative. He was not his usual confident self while leading the team.” Implying that he might have been asked to step down. It could be a huge blow for CSK if Ravindra Jadeja does decide to call it quits with CSK for next year and find a new franchise for himself.
