Before the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup Finals, there were numerous reports of the ICC and BCCI honoring the previous World Cup-winning captains. The plan was to facilitate them with special blazers and showcase clips of their achievements. Unfortunately those reports have been proven wrong as Kapil Dev revealed he was not invited to the final match.
While appearing on ABP news, Dev said that the BCCI and ICC didn’t send any invitations to him and he also said he would’ve preferred to be with his 1983 World Cup-winning team. He also said the BCCI must’ve forgotten to send as they were busy organizing the finals.

I didn’t go because they didn’t invite me. Also I wanted the entire 1983 team with me. I think because they were busy with so many responsibilities, they forgot.Kapil Dev to ABP News
Dev captained the Indian side to their first World Cup triumph in 1983. He captained the Indian team in the 1987 World Cup as well, but India got knocked out in the semi-final and didn’t captain after that.
Travis Head takes Kapil Dev-esque catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma
Despite losing Shubman Gill to Mitchell Starc, Rohit Sharma didn’t stop attacking the Australian bowlers. When Glenn Maxwell came in to bowl, Sharma dispatched him for one boundary and one maximum. Unfortunately, after hitting a boundary, Maxwell got the Indian captain for 47 runs.

High in confidence, Rohit decided to attack the Australian off-spinner and reach his 50 but things didn’t end up in his way. Stepping out to hit Maxwell, the Indian captain mistimed the ball and it traveled sky high. The ball went above covers and Travis Head ran backwards and dived to take a brilliant catch.
