Mohammed Shami became the cynosure of all eyes on the evening of Wednesday (November 15). His seven-wicket haul ensured India an easy win over New Zealand and secured themselves a berth in the final of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup. After the match, he received some praise from Indian actress-turned-politician Payal Ghosh.

Ghosh posted a couple of tweets praising Shami for his bowling. She called Shami a “beauty” at first by tweeting on X. And when he scalped his fifer, she called him a “genius”. Ghosh again praised the Indian pacer when he bagged his seven-wicket haul.

Ghosh made headlines a couple of days ago when she made a marriage proposal to Shami on X. She asked the 33-year-old to improve his English so that she could marry him. A few days later, she posted, ‘Dil dooba Tere Pyar Me’, making netizens think that it was for Shami.

Mohammed Shami is the highest wicket-taker of the 2023 ODI World Cup

Mohammed Shami recorded the best bowling figures for India with figures of 7/57, which also made him the first Indian bowler to take seven wickets in a World Cup match. He went past Stuart Binny‘s 6/4 to record the best figures by an Indian in the World Cup.

Shami bagged the wickets of Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Southee. After sending these seven batters to the dugout, Shami became the highest wicket-taker in this World Cup, despite not playing a couple of matches at the start of the tournament.
