The Pat Cummins-led side was defeated just twice in the tournament. Those two losses came in their first two group-stage matches, but since then, they have been on a roll. They went on to win seven consecutive group stage matches, and then the semifinals. The two teams started their World Cup campaign against each other on October 8 in Chennai, where the Aussies faced their first defeat.

India finally hammered New Zealand led by Kane Williamson by 70 runs to break the curse of losing to the Kiwis in ICC knockouts. Australia beat the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa by three wickets to reach the summit clash.

The Men in Yellow have reached their eighth World Cup final, while India made it to the top stage after over a decade. They last lifted the coveted cup in 2011, while the Aussies last became a champion in 2015.

Australia have played a considerable amount of cricket in India this year. The two sides also locked horns in another ICC event this year, in the World Test Championships (WTC) Final, which did not end in India’s favor.
