Finally! Finally, India defeated New Zealand in the semifinals of the ODI World Cup. On Wednesday (November 15), the hearts of the Indian cricket fans were racing even before the start of the match, because the Men in Blue’s match was against the Kiwis- the side Indian fans pray not to face in the semifinals. Even before the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Indian fans were joking that even if Rohit Sharma and Co. play incredible cricket and reach the semis, they won’t get past the Black Caps led by skipper Kane Williamson.

But not anymore! The host team, after putting on a humongous 397/4 after choosing to bat first, bundled out the Kiwis for 327 runs, winning the match by 70 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, becoming the first finalist of the tournament. Thanks to Mohammed Shami’s seven-wicket haul, India were in full control of the momentum after he dismissed skipper Williamson.

Williamson and Daryl Mitchell were forging a dangerous stand when Shami dropped Williamson’s easy catch off Jasprit Bumrah‘s delivery at one point. But Shami compensated for his mistake, sending Williamson to packing for 69 runs in the 33rd over before getting rid of Tom Latham in the same over.

Shami’s other victims were opener Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Mitchell. Mitchell was the most important wicket for India as he slammed 134 runs from 119 balls with nine boundaries and seven sixes.

Netizens heap praise on India and Mohammed Shami for reaching the final

Will India lift the World Cup this year? Indian fans will ponder over this question later because tonight and tomorrow, they will be celebrating India’s victory over the Kiwis. Social media are filled with Indian fans’ posts full of hearty congratulations for the Indian Cricket Team.
