On 2nd November India faced Sri Lanka. Deciding to bowl first Sri Lanka conceded 357 runs in their 50 overs. Most Sri Lankan bowlers failed to keep their economies below 6, with Dilshan Madushanka being hit for 80 runs off his 10 overs. Despite the expensive spell, he managed to pick up 5 important wickets.

Madushanka struck gold in his 2nd ball after bowling Indian captain Rohit Sharma with an excellent off-cutter that hit the off stump. He later got the wicket of Shubman Gill with another off-cutter. He bowled a slow bounder which Gill tried to play over the third man, but as there was no pace it went into the hands of the keeper. Gill departed for 92, missing out on a century.

The very next over Madushanka denied another century by getting Virat Kohli out for 88 runs. Bowling another off-cutter, Kohli went to punch it through covers but it landed in the hands of covers. Madushanka’s 4th victim was Suryakumar Yadav, who was once again a victim of his off-cutter. Trying to hook the ball, Suryakumar missed the ball and the ball had contact on his gloves and landed safely in the hands of the keeper.

Madushanka’s final victim was the explosive Shreyas Iyer, who was once again dismissed after mistiming another off-cutter. After being hit for two sixes, Madushanka bowled yet another off-cutter but wide of off stump. He managed to get his bat to it, but it flew high in the sky and into the hands of cover.

With an excellent bowling spell, many fans praised the young star for his bowling performance, with many calling him a one man army. People joked how he denied Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer from scoring centuries. Many were critical of how many runs he conceded though, saying although he did pick up the wickets, he needed to contain runs.
